Fuel Filters

Tire Maintenance: Your Most Critical Safety Item

Tire Rotation Schedule

Steer tires: Replace when tread reaches 4/32" (legal minimum). Many drivers replace at 6/32" for safety margin. Drive tires: Replace when tread reaches 2/32". Consider retreads for cost savings — quality retreads perform comparably to new tires. Trailer tires: Replace at 2/32". Trailer tires wear more evenly than drive tires.

Tire Rotation Pattern

Rotating tires extends their life and ensures even wear:

  • Move drive tires to trailer positions
  • Move trailer tires to drive positions
  • Steer tires typically stay in position (different size/rating)

Matching Tires

Never mix tire sizes on the same axle. Mismatched tires cause uneven wear and handling problems. Match tread depth on dual tires. A significant difference in tread depth between duals causes the deeper tire to carry more load, accelerating wear.

Retreads

Quality retreads are a legitimate cost-saving option for drive and trailer positions. Look for:

  • USTMA (US Tire Manufacturers Association) member retreaders
  • Casings with no previous repairs in the crown area
  • Proper cure temperature and time

Engine Oil: The Lifeblood of Your Truck

Modern diesel engines require specific oil specifications. Check your owner's manual for:

  • API service category (CK-4 is current for most engines)
  • Viscosity grade (15W-40 is most common; 10W-30 or 5W-30 for cold climates)
